McPhee has held positions nationally and internationally as dancer, performer, rehearsal director and teacher with contemporary dance and theatre companies since graduating from the Australian Ballet School in 1981. In 1989 she joined Tasdance and in 1996 she pursued her own theatrical vision combining dance theatre with cabaret, sideshow and carnival. She formed Softcore Inc in 2002 and the company received wide acclaim for its edgy productions that investigated social constructs in unusual and challenging ways. McPhee was Lecturer in Contemporary Dance at Queensland University of Technology and graduated with a Master of Fine Arts in 2004. Since 2007 she pursued her work in the area of Sexology graduating from Curtin University in 2012 and returned to devising performance work and teaching mature adults for Glen Murray, MADE Company in Brisbane and Queensland Ballet. She formed WaW Dance with Wendy Wallace in 2014, auspiced by Ausdance Qld WaW Dance has collaborated with Vulcana Women’s Circus and aims to develop creative pursuits for mature adults.
